TREATMENT OF ERIOCHROME BLACK T DYE SOLUTION USING ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESS.
Abstract
The present study is based on the application of the Electrocoagulation (EC) process in removal of dye pollutants. Many factors affect the electrochemical process and as the voltage is increased from 5V DC to 30V DC the removal efficiency of about 98.3% is attained at 13V DC and at electrolysis time of 180 seconds the removal efficiency reaches up to 99.14% for 25 ppm of Dye solution. The temperature plays a vital role and maximum removal efficiency reaches up to 94.2% at room temperature. It was found that inter-electrode distance 0.5 cm is more favorable for removal. Increase in the number of pairs of electrodes enhances the removal efficiency. If there is a rise in concentration of the solution from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm the efficiency decreases from 99.2% to 63.6%. The COD of the treated solution drops from 1600 to 320 ppm under 13V DC, 3 minutes of contact time for 25ppm of dye solution. The energy consumption, anode dissolution also plays a crucial role in removal of dye.
