Extremely Compact UWB Antenna Design with Single Notch-Band Characteristic
Abstract
This paper presents an extremely compact antenna design for Ultra wideband (UWB) application that also imbibes notch-band characteristic at WLAN band. The fabrication of desired antenna is done on a FR4 substrate and it consists of a truncated radiating structure that is supplied by a 50 Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) feedline structure. Ground plane is engraved with an inverted-L slot that consequently establishes the frequency-notch characteristic at WLAN band (5.15-5.825 GHz). Ground plane is defected by engraving a rectangular slot in the ground plane for improving the impedance bandwidth. The selectivity of designed antenna is improved by optimizing the antenna design parameters. The proposed antenna has a minimal profile size of 19×9×1.6 mm3. The simulations are done on HFSS v13 platform and the results obtained seem highly promising in terms of radiation pattern, matched impedance and gain. Performance comparisons in terms of VSWR, gain and group delay are also drawn with another antenna design structure having profile dimensions (30×26×1.6 mm3) almost twice of proposed antenna.
